Vintage flea market coming to Eastern Market this summer

Vintage flea market coming to Eastern Market this summer

It’s vintage Eastern Market, the market that says it “nourishes our city’s soul.”

Much of Detroit’s soul lies in its history and much of its soul lies in the talent and passion of newcomers and long-time companies.

This summer you can get both during the Shed5 Flea, Detroit’s newest antique, vintage and makers market. You’ll get a hefty dose of architectural salvage, vintage, antiques, craft goods and talented shopkeepers all under one roof. There will be jewelry, clothing, old tools, sculptures, food (of course), and much more.

It happens the second Sunday of June, July and August.

“This Eastern Market Sunday Series affiliated market is chock full of chippy paint, rust, hand-mades, artisanal foods, amazing shopkeepers and more – waiting just for you,” says Stephanie Jones, founder and director, Mercantile Events & Marketing, the group putting on the event. “Shed 5 Flea launches June 12 and will be stocked with the best junk Detroit has ever seen.  Bring a big truck.”

There will be popups alongside a principle group of vintage partners and Detroit design personalities. The design personalities include:

Jones says her company is looking for other Detroit design personalities. If you’re interested, email Suzanne@MercMarketing.com for more information. There is no cost to join the program, just a commitment to cross-promote Shed 5 Flea.

“It is a collaborative effort,” she says. “We are grass roots, too, and we rely on relationships.”

Salvaged-3Jones also wants to expand the event to include other Detroit business.  She is working on a passport program so patrons going to the Shed 5 event are encouraged to visit other businesses.

Jones expects to fill Shed 5, which will hold about 70 vendors. Each one gets a 10’x10’ booth. The cost is $95 per date.

“You are setting up a min-store in your space,” she says.

Outdoor spaces are also available and are located under the awning of Shed 6 or in the parking lot between Sheds 5 and 6. The cost is $95 per date per 15’x10’ space. Outdoor booths must supply their own tents. There is a $50 share fee and must require prior approval.

Outside is a great place to display large architectural pieces.

Mercantile Events & Marketing is accepting applications from those who would like to be part of the event. For more information on applying online click here.

The merchandise is vintage-inspired and all products are juried.

“We really want to knock the socks off our patrons come June 12 but aren’t losing sight of quality over quantity and are jurying all three dates accordingly,” says Jones.

Mercantile & Events has been putting on shows for 10 years and is “excited about working with Eastern Market … we are from the Flint area and love a comeback story,” says Jones.
