Every kid needs someplace that they can kick-back, congregate and call their “own.” With the grand re-opening of the former Tindal Recreation Center, local neighborhood youth now have access to a newly renovated facility that will provide a wide range of classes and activities.
UAW-Ford sponsored the center’s renovations, including: a remodeled gym floor, painting, basketball rim, new hot water boilers, kitchen appliances and a remodeled weight room which is open to area families in the surrounding community.
“UAW-Ford is proud to support Tindal Recreation Center by helping to restore a needed community center for local youth and residents,” said Jimmy Settles, UAW-Ford vice president. “I believe together we can rebuild our communities; and we must each do our part no matter how seemingly small to inch towards making a better tomorrow.”
Healthy Kidz R Us, a local community-based organization, is supporting expanded programs at the center.
Mayor Mike Duggan and Interim Parks & Recreation Director David Miller attended the grand re-opening event in a continued show of support of improved educational and recreational opportunities for the youth of Detroit.
The center is located at 10301 West 7 Mile Road between Meyers and Wyoming, behind the Social Security Administration Building on 7 Mile Road.
