Volunteers are prepping 500 plus bikes at two locations, Belmont Shopping Center 1900 E. 8 Mile Road (8 & Dequindre) back entrance and Macomb Central Action Center 196 N. Rose Street Mount Clemens, MI 48043 side entrance on Wednesday May 10, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. for its upcoming giveaway May 20th.

“It all began with the thought that we could mobilize more kids around Macomb County by getting them on bikes,” said Melissa Roy, executive director of Advancing Macomb and the mastermind behind the initiative. “What we ended up with is a program that has brought our community together, a show of force throughout Macomb County and almost 600 bikes for kids on the east side and their families.”

Roy said getting kids on bikes will give them more access to recreation. “(It) improves their fitness and healthy activity, provides them with a low-cost source of fun, gives kids a way to get to know their local area and even helps their mental health through the increase in physical exercise.”

Program Sponsors are AIT Worldwide Logistics, Belmont Shopping Center, Macomb County Community Action, Paul’s Bike Depot, CMS Energy, Macomb Bike & Fitness, Macomb Intermediate School District, Meijer, Hunchfree, Slow Spokes Bike Club, Chemical Bank, St. John Providence, HAP, Sorrento Pizza, Slow Spokes Bicycle Club.
