The Detroit City Chess Club came home with trophies, medals and championships, last week in the Midwest Regional Chess Championships at Paul Brown Stadium in Cincinnati.
Coached by Kevin Fite, the upper grades team, made up of junior high and high school students, won the Junior High and High School championships, beating out teams in nine states.
The Detroit club’s primary grade team, composed of grades kindergarten through third grade, finished in second place in the tournament. The team composed of 92 youngsters overall also competed against three chess Grand Masters.
Congratulations to Coach Fite and the entire team for their hard work and representing Detroit so well.
