Comcast to offer services to Highland Park residents

Comcast is coming to Highland Park.

The internet provider has acquired MIcom, the city’s cable system, and expects to begin offering Xfinity residential and Comcast Business services in the coming weeks.

Highland Park residents and businesses will have access to Comcast’s full suite of Xfinity products and services, including the X1 video platform, which provides a personalized, interactive TV experience. Xfinity Internet customers will also have access to Xfinity Mobile, which includes up to five lines, unlimited nationwide talk and text, and no line access fees.

Highland Park Mayor Hubert Yopp says having access to Comcast’s advanced products and services will help the city attract residents and businesses.

The company’s prepaid internet and TV services, including Xfinity Instant TV, which lets customers stream live TV on any device with no extra, will also be available.

“This is great news for the residents and businesses of Highland Park, particularly as we move forward with our comprehensive revitalization plan to build a strong future for our city,” says Highland Park Mayor Hubert Yopp. “Having access to the same advanced products and services that Comcast provides across the rest of Michigan has tremendous value as we seek to attract residents and businesses to Highland Park.”

Comcast also plans to bring its Internet Essentials program to Highland Park. The program offers high-speed internet adoption program for low-income residents and will be available to eligible households immediately after the transaction closes.

The program provides eligible residents with low-cost, high-speed Internet service for $9.95 a month plus tax and the option to purchase an Internet-ready computer for under $150. In addition, it offers multiple options to access free digital literacy training in print, online and in person.

Businesses in Highland Park will have access to Comcast Business’ internet, WiFi, cloud, voice and TV.

“We are excited to bring our Xfinity products and services to Highland Park,” says Tim Collins, senior vice president of Comcast’s Heartland Region, which includes Michigan. “We look forward to bringing that same community commitment to the residents and businesses of Highland Park.”

Over the next few weeks, Comcast will reach out directly to existing MIcom customers to answer questions and explain the wide array of products and services. Highland Park residents and businesses with questions can also call 866-579-7081.
