Classic cars will have the spotlight at Mariners Inn recovery program outing

Vehicle buffs can support an effort to keep Detroiters on their journey toward sober living.

A 1972 Ford Mustang and a 1987 Buick Grand National are among the cars that will be featured.

The “Revved Up for Recovery” classic car show and open house will be held from noon to 4 p.m. Aug. 11 at Mariners Inn, 445 Ledyard St. in Detroit.

The inaugural community event will include a barbecue, DJ entertainment, prizes, raffles and more.

“This fun, family-friendly event gives us a great opportunity to highlight the importance of leisure activities that don’t include drugs or alcohol for the recovery community,” says David Sampson, CEO of Mariners Inn. “Importantly, it further helps us share the meaningful work that is conducted day after day by our dedicated team of counselors and staff at the Mariners Inn.”

Guests of the event are encouraged to make a $5 donation, and a $10 fee is requested of car owners who’d like to showcase their classic vehicles. A 1972 Ford Mustang and a 1987 Buick Grand National are among the cars that will be featured.

Testimonials of current Mariners Inn program participants and alumni will be shared during the outing. Mariners Inn is a licensed substance abuse treatment facility and shelter for homeless men that has operated for almost 100 years.
