Doing good is wonderful any day of the year, but it is especially important this week if you are of the Christian faith. That’s exactly why New Life Family Church goes big when it does a big event and focuses on “Doing Good On Friday.”
On Friday, the church is offering free gas and free oil changes through its annual $10K Gas Giveaway Program. The church calls it Good Friday for many reasons – it is helping Detroiters as well as honoring the life, death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ, officials said.
The free gas is available Friday the BP Gas Station, 4125 8 Mile Road. The free oil changes will be at City Oil Change, 18200 Livernois in Detroit.
“Our ministry is postured to celebrate Jesus just as many other churches will this week, but we wanted to make sure that we demonstrated him as well,” Pastor Welton T. Smith IV said in a statement. “Our annual $10K Gas Giveaway is just one of the many great things we are blessed to do. Our ministry is full of young adults who love Detroit and are always willing to do what it takes to love on their own. Emulating our love for Christ, we proudly blame Jesus for doing what we do.”
Detroiters wanting to take advantage of the free gas or oil changes should arrive early. The event begins at 9:00 a.m. and the gas and oil changes will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. The gas will pump and oil changed until the $10,000 is used up.
New Life Family Church was founded by Pastor Welton, a Detroit native, on Easter Sunday, 2007.
You can follow the ministry online @newlifeanywhere. The church meets at Bailey Cathedral, 7045 Curtis Street, Detroit, Michigan 48221.
