Michigan high school students with a bent toward art can win up to $1,000 in the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) annual poster contest.

In addition, winning posters will be displayed at NAIAS 2019, reproduced in the official NAIAS program, and be displayed on the official NAIAS website.

The NAIAS poster contest is open to all Michigan students enrolled in grades 10 through 12. The entry deadline is Nov. 20.

Posters must be original artwork, 18″x24″ in size, two-dimensional and camera ready. The poster theme must be automotive related, and any mixed media suitable for reproduction as a poster is allowed, including computer-generated graphics. Posters must contain all of the following copy: “2019 NAIAS or 2019 North American International Auto Show,” “Detroit” and “Cobo Center.”

“As chairman, it is very rewarding to me to see firsthand the creative young minds we have in our great state and be able to award them for their imaginative interpretations of our show,” says Bill Golling, 2019 NAIAS chairman.

An independent panel of judges, including College for Creative Studies instructors, automaker designers and State Farm representatives, will review the submissions and select the winning posters.

The judges will choose winners in the following 16 categories:

1. Chairmen’s Award – $1,000
2. State Farm Award – $1,000
3. Designer’s Best of Show: Digital – $500
4. Designer’s Best of Show: Traditional – $500
5. Best Theme – $250
6. Best Use of Color – $250
7. Most Creative – $250
8. 1^st Place: 10^th Grade – $500
9. 1^st Place: 11^th Grade – $500
10. 1^st Place: 12^th Grade – $500
11. 2^nd Place: 10^th Grade – $250
12. 2^nd Place: 11^th Grade – $250
13. 2^nd Place: 12^th Grade – $250
14. 3^rd Place: 10^th Grade – $100
15. 3^rd Place: 11^th Grade – $100
16. 3^rd Place: 12^th Grade – $100

Now in its 31^ST year, the NAIAS poster contest was created to engage the creative minds of Michigan’s high school students and encourage careers in automotive design. For the 2018 contest, NAIAS received 825 entries from 68 high schools across the state.
