A delicious tradition will return to the city Oct. 4 through Oct. 13 when the 2nd Annual Southwest Detroit Restaurant Week is expected to attract thousands from the metro area. Almost two-dozen Latin American eateries and bars will participate in the celebration presented by the Southwest Detroit Business Association (SDBA), representing recipes and dishes throughout Hispanic culture. The event helps observe Hispanic Heritage Month.

 

“Southwest Detroit has long been known as a wonderful food and restaurant destination for residents and visitors in metro Detroit,” says SDBA President Robert Dewaelsche. “We hope this event helps to showcase our rich cultural diversity while encouraging more visitors to explore the area. In addition to our authentic restaurants and taquerias visitors can find unique products and services among the more than 1,700 small businesses many mercados, bakeries, merchants, specialty retailers.”

Among the numerous featured establishments and dishes, El Asador will showcase Chuleta de Borrego en Barbacoa (lamb chops in Mexican Barbecue) and northern Mexican cuisine, while Antojitos el Catracho, known for its Honduran cuisine, will offer Machuca (mashed ingredients). Asty Time will feature its special Pescado al Coco (Fish in Coconut) from the Dominican Republic.
