A Detroit art venue is taking sign language to another level.

Using the theme of leadership campaigns and propaganda, DMJ Studio will host “Posters On Politics,” an exhibition of almost 100 pieces of social messaging and statements from throughout the world, from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at 314 East Baltimore, Saturday Nov. 4.

Featuring images, some of which depict political figures in bright, vivid portraits, and provocative words, “Posters On Politics” should spark reflection, says DMJ Studio owner and artist Donna Jackson.

Perspectives of world leaders and powerful political statements are featured in a Nov. 4 poster exhibition at DMJ Studio in Detroit.

“The political dynamics are changing, not only in America but around the world, and every day we, as global citizens, are affected by what is happening in our hometowns, as well as thousands of miles away,” Jackson says. “During the selection process, we received more than 400 poster submissions from artists all around the world. What was most amazing and profound, in reviewing all the submissions, were the common political themes and influences being expressed in the artworks.

“It became clear to me just how interconnected we all are, as citizens of the world, and political issues around justice, equality, morality, peace, are intertwined in political posters and artworks.”

Curated by Jackson, the exhibition showcases posters from Poland, Greece, South Korea, United Kingdom, Spain, Iran, and other regions. Race, immigration and religion are among the themes explored in the art.

Guests at the exhibit can enjoy music and refreshments, along with a discussion and film about politics.

“The Posters on Politics exhibit will show the global view of politics, while providing a platform for all of us to learn, connect and understand what we want in our government, policies, and for future world citizens,” Jackson says.
