Dinosaurs star on Art Van float for Thanksgiving Day Parade, the second oldest in the U.S.

Art Van takes a step back into the Jurassic period and Ice Age with its new float “Dinosaurs on Parade.”

The 125-foot-long float debuts at the 91st America’s Thanksgiving Parade presented by Art Van. It is one of the largest floats ever designed and built by the artists at The Parade Company.

The float features built-to-scale dinosaurs and prehistoric creatures that tower up to 25 to 30 feet high each. Dinosaurs include a Stegosaurus, a Pterodactyl and a Brachiosaurus, among others. There are also saber tooth tigers and a woolly mammoth with her baby. The Parade Company along with numerous Art Van volunteers spent 1,000 hours to bring the float to life.

Tony Michaels, president and CEO of The Parade Company, predicts the float will be “a show stopper on Thanksgiving morning.”

Art Van became the parade’s presenting sponsor in 2013.

Sharing the title of America’s second-oldest Thanksgiving parade with Macy’s in New York, America’s Thanksgiving Parade has been filling Detroit’s streets since 1924.

“We are proud to be the presenting sponsor of this nearly century-long tradition in Detroit, America’s Thanksgiving Parade presented by Art Van,” says Kim Yost, president and CEO of Art Van. “We look forward to sharing our new float with the parade goers along Woodward Avenue and the millions of families watching across the country.”

America’s Thanksgiving Parade presented by Art Van will be held on Thursday, November 23. For more information, visit theparade.org.

The parade will be featured on WDIV-TV Local 4, including a one-hour national broadcast reaching more than 190 major cities across the country. News/Talk 760 WJR’s Paul W. Smith and CBS Radio will also broadcast live from the parade route.
