Organizations that represent Detroit need real Detroiters with real city experience.
Shamyle Dobbs’ recent promotion from chief program officer to CEO of Michigan Community Resources (MCR) represents smart thinking by its board of directors in moving a proven member of its ranks into a leadership role. Dobbs replaces Jill Ferrari, who capably led MCR, a grassroots training and development organization and resource for neighborhood associations and block clubs, in significant achievements, including the launch of its annual “Power of One Dedicated Woman” tribute to city activists.
Dobbs takes the CEO position after 10 years with MCR. A New York native, she moved to Detroit in 2001 to finish her master of social work degree at the University of Michigan and earned a juris doctor from Wayne State University.
Whether working to promote MCR programs in the office or supporting collaborations in the community, Dobbs presence has helped contribute to the collective advancement of residents.
