Leaders of the far-west side’s most prominent community will announce their strategy for improving the quality of life for residents Wednesday morning.
Members of the Cody Rouge Community Action Alliance are set to unveil a comprehensive plan to transform Cody Rouge into a premiere neighborhood, with support from the Skillman Foundation, DTE Energy, General Motors and Quicken Loans.
The residents and their supporters will gather at Don Bosco Hall, 19321 West Chicago, where they will give an overview of seven targeted areas for improvement and expansion, including: neighborhood stabilization, youth and workforce development, land use, community-based organization support, safety and security, strengthening commercial corridors, and creating a more welcoming community while retaining residents.
“Our goal, as we develop the neighborhood, is that it is kid-focused and that it serves youth and families.” -Kenyetta Campbell, Executive Director, Cody Rouge Community Action Alliance
Kenyetta V. Campbell, executive director of the Cody Rouge Community Action Alliance, says details of the announcement will detail the neighborhood’s renewed strategy for ongoing development in one of the city’s areas with the largest numbers of youth.
“Our goal, as we develop the neighborhood, is that it is kid-focused and that it serves youth and families,” says Campbell.
Also scheduled to attend the announcement is Tonya Allen, CEO of the Skillman Foundation, which supported Cody Rouge as one of its Good Neighborhoods 10-year grant recipients, along with five other areas of Detroit. Other supporters include Calvin Colbert, head of the Detroit Impact Center, Dehvin Banks, president of the Cody Rouge Community Youth Council, Bill Emerson, vice chairman of Quicken Loans, Heidi Magyar, director of Community Outreach for General Motors, and Jerry Norcia, president and COO of DTE Energy.
Cody Rouge has gathered increasing interest from residents, corporate and community partners in recent years. Life Remodeled has performed multiple school and neighborhood renovation projects, and General Motors’ “GM Cares” deployed about 2,000 volunteers for community cleanups in 2016.
