Fire Up Your Feet Activity Challenge looking for schools to sign up for fun, prizes

It’s something you do every day – bike, walk or run to school. But did you know that your school could win great prizes and encourage physical fitness with a unique program?

Fire Up Your Feet is a program that encourages families, students and schools to be healthy and physically active. The Fire Up Your Feet Activity Challenge awards more than $100,000 to K-8 schools in participating regions across the country that bike, walk, dance, jump and are the most active.

Thanks to support from the Michigan Fitness Foundation, Fire Up Your Feet will award up to $5,000 to Michigan schools during the May challenge. And there is still time to register to participate in the Michigan program.

It is all about the most participation in your active school – so grab your parents, students, teachers, administrators and school staff – everybody can move and help you earn cash awards to help improve your school!

Nationally, the program has 3 basic components: Year-round resources, Activity Challenges and an Active Schools Fundraising program. Any school in the country can use our activity tracker and download resources to help their school community become more active. Resources include tip sheets that encourage walking and bicycling, information to assist schools in developing wellness policies, and more.

In participating regions, the program also offers spring and fall Activity Challenges, which provide cash awards that help schools invest in their physical activity programs and help create a win for promoting healthy habits at the school.

Participation is easy and free, just follow these three steps:
1. Register.
2. Create a group and enter the total number of participants in your group.
Track activity for your school by selecting the date, type of activity, minutes of activity, group that performed the activity.

Final Challenge Awards are calculated by the following formula: Total number of students, parents/guardians and school staff that tracked during the Challenge period, divided by school enrollment. Schools are not able to win 1st place two challenges in a row. If a school wins a first-place award the previous Challenge, they are eligible to win all other awards including 2nd and 3rd place.

1 $1,200 first place award
1 $800 second place award

There are other awards available as well. They include:

This award will be given to the school with the most students, parents/guardians, and school staff tracking during the Challenge Period, divided by school enrollment
