It’s a bit eerie, really. Being without power makes us all stop and remember that life wasn’t always this easy.
We count on electricity to do just about everything and when we don’t have access to it, we suffer. In the majority of cases, we’re inconvenienced, but in others, there are more life-threatening consequences.
We’ve just experienced what DTE Energy has called the largest weather event in its history, weathering wind gusts of over 60 m.p.h. Many area homes and businesses lost power.
Hundreds of DTE Energy and Consumers Energy employees were out and, are still out, making sure that the millions of us impacted are “powered up” and able to get on with our daily lives.
And for those that need it most, their service is life-saving.
I wouldn’t want to be out there working on live wires amidst treacherous wind gusts and flying debris, which makes me ever more grateful that there are those that heed the call and are out there supporting us.
When you see those trucks and workers out there, let’s give them a wave or silent salute in appreciation of their service.
Happily, I’m back to work today.
Hopefully, everyone’s power will be restored soon. Thank you, DTE Energy!
