Like the product it’s known for, Avalon International Breads has become a staple for Detroiters.
Loyal customers know the bakery for its great bread, pastry, muffins, and croissants, as well as soups, flatbread pizzas, and assorted other foodstuffs.
As if their following wasn’t loyal enough, Avalon has paired with Mighty Good Coffee to boost their customers’ mornings even further.
Detroit ranks 95 among the top 100 best coffee cities in America, according to WalletHub.
From 9 to 10 a.m., Monday to Friday, caffeine lovers will receive a $1.00 cappuccino during “Cappy Hour” just for purchasing a breakfast pastry at any of the Avalon cafes. Patrons know the flagship bakery on Detroit’s Willis Street well, but Avalon has outposts in Ann Arbor and additional locations in downtown Detroit—one on Grand Boulevard and another, its newest, on lower Woodward Avenue.
Prefer to take it home and brew your own? Coffee by the pound is available at a discounted price of $10.95 as well.
The effort couldn’t be better timed.
In 2017, Americans drinking coffee on a daily basis increased to 62 percent, up from 57 percent in 2016, according to the National Coffee Associations 2017 National Coffee Drinking Trends consumption report released in March.

Avalon will also be holding “Cupping” classes, which will show participantsthe depth and breadth of the different Mighty Good brews.
Mighty Good is also in the business of making beer as only a coffee company can: Its unique blend, North Peak Perk, made in conjunction with North Peak Brewing Company, is created with coffee beans—yes, coffee beans—from Costa Rica, Guatemala, and Ethiopia. The brew is served in the evening hours at the Ann Arbor and downtown Detroit locations.
Cappy Hour lasts from October 16th through the 31st, so strike while the iron—rather, the coffee—is hot.
